Andrew
and Diane Moore are truly “old house lovers”, it is evident
when you meet them, and their hope is that it will be contagious. Andrew
and Diane had watched the TV show, “The Good Life” on HGTV
and were ready to try it out. Diane left her job in 1994, then Andrew
left his job in 1995 (while they were in their 30’s and 40’s)
and set out to make a mark on their community by restoring one majestic
home at a time. They do 90% of the restoration work themselves and have
successfully worked side by side throughout their entire married life,
which in 2003 will be twenty one years. They had remodeled several houses
in the past, but had always yearned for an opportunity to totally restore
a home. This opportunity came in 1999, when the house that is currently
known as The Densler House was auctioned to the highest bidder. They knew
this house was meant to be theirs, the only obstacle they could see was
there was another bidder in the crowd that had other plans. The other
bidder was not looking to restore the house, but to remove it, and the
Moore’s just couldn’t bear the thought of this house no longer
being a part of Wilsonville. Restoration is very different from remodeling
and there were many problems that cropped up that they had to research
to know how to handle them. The restoration took two and a half years
of what most people would call steady work, but the Moore’s call
“sheer bliss”. They will never say a project is complete,
because there is always something that can be done. |
